Distributive Leadership

Identify whether distributive leadership is used for capacity building at your school site.
Explain how it is being used. If it is not, describe how it could benefit your school site to apply this concept.

I believe that distributive leadership is used for capacity building at my school site.  They use it by having many different leaders in the school.  There are so many different ways for teachers to be leaders in a school site.  My school site has different leaders for different groups within the school.  These leaders have different responsibilities.  They are mostly responsible for delegating roles for the rest of the group.  Delegation is a difficult job.  It takes a special person to be able to do this.  The person has to really want the group to succeed.     My school site uses this type of distributive leadership to benefit the school by allowing people to step up and use their talents.  When people realize their potential, they can help others find their potential.

Leadership Theory

Leadership in a school setting is very important.  It is important because in every setting, someone must step up.  Someone has to take charge and help the group find the direction they should be going.  I do believe that teachers should have curriculum based leadership because they should always be leading with what they are teaching.  This means that the teachers could back up what they are leading with their curriculum.  I think that this could definitely benefit the school because it would help the school understand what they are teaching.  They would have a better understanding of why they are teaching what they are teaching.

Power Dynamic

The power dynamic at my school site is held by the administration.  It is very apparent because they are the ones who make the decisions for the school.  This is made up of the Principle and 2 Vice Principles.  They have the power for the school but they do not abuse it.  They have very strong communication skills, and use those skills to make sure that they are communicating with the teachers to ensure that they are doing what is best for the school as a whole.

Strength-Based Leadership

Strength-based leadership is very important.  It is very important for people to focus on strengths instead of weaknesses.  If leaders train a group well, the people in the group may become leaders one day.  If those people lead the way that they were led, it will become a community of strength based leaders.  People would excel at their jobs, because they would be doing what they are good at.

Personal Leadership

There are many things I hope to learn from this course.  I hope to develop more leadership skills.  I hope to learn how to be a leader with my students, as well as, the other teachers on my team.  I would like to learn how to lead them and help them be better educators.  I need to learn how to lead them while building them up, and helping their confidence grow.  This course will help me grown in my leadership skills by teaching me these things.  It will help me learn about leadership and learn how to better myself as an educator.
